In my previous blog post, I made the point that the most valuable learning experiences happen when you overlay the business system with the people dynamics that occur on a daily basis. Insight Experience’s programs are designed to capture, teach, and apply both of these dynamics. The natural question is, “What does this look like?”
Here’s an example of how we apply these dynamics:
You have just identified two key projects for your workgroup to take on this quarter. You have made sure the projects align with the corporate strategy and have run the numbers to make sure each project will have a positive impact on the company’s financial performance. You have selected a project lead for each of the projects, and based on their recommendations, have staffed the project teams accordingly.
It would be easy to stop there, hit send and see how your decisions played out. But…
In walks (quite literally), one of your top individual contributors. He consistently outperforms everyone on the team, is a good team member, but has never led a team. When he is happy, everything goes well, but when he is not happy, the whole team suffers. He is very disappointed about not being chosen as the project leader… now what do you do?
At our core, Insight Experience is an Applied Leadership Development Company. We help our participants learn the key business skills necessary for their position, while also learning to be agile and balance the people dimensions of their role. Our simulation methodology allows leaders to not only learn, but also apply the concepts. To go back to the golf analogy, we take participants to the driving range, we take them to the putting green, and then we take them out to the course to play golf!
